Walk into Mayan history with a guided tour of the famed Chacchoben Maya Ruins.

Highlights
  • Learn about the history and culture of the Mayans, whose earliest settlers in the region date back to 1000 BC, at the enormous urban site Chacchoben, built in the eighth century AD. The reasons for its creation and abandonment are largely unknown.
  • Explore the four grand temples, conspicuous due to their lack of ornamentation, and the Great Plaza, which served as the central marketplace.
  • Continue on to the Gran Basamento, the Great Basement that was used for religious ceremonies, with the cups, pitchers, bowls, and plates used in these rituals stored in the nearby Temple of the Vessels.
